The Newcomer Award 2023

New ideas by young talents – that constitutes the Newcomer Award of the Erich Mendelsohn Award for Brick Architecture. Students, graduates and young architects are invited to become part of the international competition by submitting their concepts, ideas and projects related to brick. Then share your project with us and join over 600 international submissions. You can submit anything as long as it has to do with brick architecture: a design, an idea, a plan or a building – the important thing is that the overall concept is convincing.

The Winners 2023

It’s decided: On September 8, 2023, the Initiative Bauen mit Backstein announced this year's winners of the Erich Mendelsohn Award for Brick Architecture at the official award ceremony in Berlin. The jury particularly focused on two areas in its evaluation: social housing and renovation. The Clos Pachem Winery by the Catalan office HARQUITECTES convinced the panel with its pioneering approach of interweaving aesthetic and technical elements, and was accordingly honored with the highest award, the Grand Prix.

Award ceremony on September 8

76 projects are on the shortlist for the 2023 Erich Mendelsohn Award for Brick Architecture. Which of them will receive an award will be announced at the official award ceremony on Friday, September 8^th.

Success under new name

For the first time, the Award for Brick Architecture has been announced under the name of Erich Mendelsohn – and with resounding success: 585 projects from 29 countries reached the internationally renowned competition by the closing date for submissions on May 31. The Erich Mendelsohn Award 2023 for Brick Architecture thus successfully builds on the figures of previous years.

Newcomer Jury 2023 appointed

For the fourth time now, the Newcomer Award honors projects by students and emerging architects. Three architecture experts were appointed to the jury: Benedikt Hotze, Franziska Käuferle and Dr. Fabian Peters will meet in june in Berlin.

Fritz-Höger-Preis 2020 | News Newcomer-Award 2020

The winners 2020!

Now it's official: the best brick projects have made it from the shortlist to the podium of the Fritz Höger Award 2020 for Brick Architecture. This year not only bronze awards were a novelty: For the first time two projects were awarded the Grand Prix. Both the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne by Barozzi / Veiga and the Nakasone House detached property in Mexico City by the architect Escobedo Soliz completely convinced the judges and were accordingly honoured with the highest award.
