News ON the Erich Mendelsohn Award 2023 For Brick Architecture

The award ceremony of the Erich Mendelsohn Award 2023 for Brick Architecture took place on September 8 at the Deutsches Architektur Zentrum (DAZ) in Berlin. More than 100 guests from all over the world celebrated together the award of the best buildings made of brick.

It’s decided: On September 8, 2023, the Initiative Bauen mit Backstein announced this year's winners of the Erich Mendelsohn Award for Brick Architecture at the official award ceremony in Berlin. The jury particularly focused on two areas in its evaluation: social housing and renovation. The Clos Pachem Winery by the Catalan office HARQUITECTES convinced the panel with its pioneering approach of interweaving aesthetic and technical elements, and was accordingly honored with the highest award, the Grand Prix.

76 projects are on the shortlist for the 2023 Erich Mendelsohn Award for Brick Architecture. Which of them will receive an award will be announced at the official award ceremony on Friday, September 8^th.

The jury of the Erich Mendelsohn Award 2023 for Brick Architecture has decided: 76 architecture offices and projects from a total of 584 submissions were shortlisted by the jurors.

For the first time, the Award for Brick Architecture has been announced under the name of Erich Mendelsohn – and with resounding success: 585 projects from 29 countries reached the internationally renowned competition by the closing date for submissions on May 31. The Erich Mendelsohn Award 2023 for Brick Architecture thus successfully builds on the figures of previous years.

The Erich Mendelsohn Award 2023 for Brick Architecture is extending the submission period by one month until May 31st. By extending the deadline, the Initiative Bauen mit Backstein is responding to requests from architecture offices that have not yet been able to complete their submission due to increased workload or lack of photos.

The jury for the Erich Mendelsohn Award 2023 for Brick Architecture is appointed. Eight renowned jurors will evaluate the projects submitted to the Award: Susanne Wartzeck, Ulrich Brinkmann, Fabrizio Barozzi, Andrés Solíz Paz and Silvia Schellenberg-Thaut will meet in June in Berlin.

For the fourth time now, the Newcomer Award honors projects by students and emerging architects. Three architecture experts were appointed to the jury: Benedikt Hotze, Franziska Käuferle and Dr. Fabian Peters will meet in june in Berlin.
