STHAPOTIK is a well-known architectural firm based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The firm began its journey in 2007 with the motto of responsible environments in architecture. The firm provides award-winning design, construction and consulting services to discerning clients.

The practice of STHOPOTIK emerges from how the surrounding environment evolves with the challenges of the contemporary world. It’s always inspired by traditional sustainable architecture and tries to retain cultural, climatic, and materialistic influences from the past in a pragmatic solution. STHAPOTIK operates at the edges of the discipline in collaboration with other fields to explore and re-invent the many intersections between architecture and the “everything else”. The practice promises new possibilities for Architecture to engage and shape the future that lies in the revision of boundaries between the urban, the rural and the natural.

The office is currently involved in many projects throughout the Country. STHAPOTIK has a team of qualified and dedicated young professionals who have developed empirical knowledge and special skills in the use of incorporating new challenges and technologies in architecture and design. Principal Architect Sharif Uddin Ahamed leads his team by considering the layers of physical and cultural archaeology at each site, not just the apparent contexts and programs of a building in the process of design. Besides the approach always looks for the sustainable initiative and emphasizes the well-being of communities.

The firm has produced a wide range of successful projects including housing, apartments, and innovative educational institutes, cultural and commercial facilities. The experience and skill of the key members and the supporting staff allow STHAPOTIK to offer a comprehensive range of services commending with the preliminary investigation and following through the various stages of planning and study, detailed designs, and reports, and specifications and contract negotiations and management of construction. The office has 14 years of experience, talents and capability to provide services in the following areas: architecture, interior design, planning, urban design, restorations, renovations, existing facility evaluation special furnishing design graphics

After professional achievement, STHAPOTIK tried to step into the international field by participating in various international competitions. And fortune stepped in by holding the hand of WORLD ARCHITECTURE in 2009. STHAPOTIK won the competition for designing CYCLONE SHELTER CUM SCHOOL BUILDING arranged by World Architecture. Nationally the big achievement was the winning position for designing THE HEAD OFFICE OF AGRANI BANK, Dhaka arranged by IAB in 2011, Commendation Award by Berger for EXCELLENCE IN ARCHITECTURE in 2019.

Architect Md. Sharif Uddin Ahammed was born in Jessore, Bangladesh. He spent his formative years in the district town of Jessore where the natural context encouraged him to build a keen observation ability and the natural tendency of learning from his surroundings. The traditional, sustainable way of leading life and building structures inspires him to pursue architecture as a profession. His practice involved the incorporation of our glorious past into contemporary expressions. Architect Md. Sharif Uddin Ahammed has been conferred his Bachelor of Architecture from, the discipline of architecture, at Khulna University. After graduating he started his profession in 2005, He founded his own practice “Sthapotik” in 2007 with the motto of responsive environments in architecture. Through responsive environments, he addresses a sensitive architectural practice which involves climatic, contextual, cultural, economic, social, materialistic, and sustainable responsiveness. His practice is studio-based, though, every project has been executed with extended research and time to achieve architectural brilliance. He admires challenges and continually seeks new circumstances to connect heritage and culture with context. His works range from schools for special needs to low-cost housing, mosques, residences, and apartments to corporate head offices, University buildings, Industries and interior. He has been teaching at several Universities since 2010. Currently, he is teaching at Ahasanullah University of Science and Technology as Part-time faculty. He achieved a number of national and international awards during his practice. Awards are;

• Commendation award of Berger Award for Excellence in Architecture organized by Berger, Bangladesh in Association with IAB in 2019.

• Shortlisted for 2A Asia Architecture Award organized by 2A Art & Architecture Magazine, Vienna in 2016.

• Received World Architecture Award in the 5th cycle for the design of a School Cyclone Shelter in 2009.

• Received 2nd prize in an Open Architectural Design Competition for the design of Agrani Bank Bhaban-3 at Shahbag, Dhaka in Association with IAB in 2011

• Shortlisted for MH17 Memorial + Park an international competition organized by MATTERBETTER in 2014.
