Jo Janssen Architecten
Jo Janssen, born 1959 , after an education at the Secondary Technical School Maastricht (1979); Technical High School Heerlen, department architecture (1983), he graduated in 1990 at Academy of Architecture Maastricht (NL).
After working within several architectural offices (among them Wiel Arets & Wim van den Bergh architects; ir. Wiel Arets architects & associates) he founded the office Jo Janssen Architecten in 1996.
In 1998 he started a collaboration with Prof. Ir. Wim van den Bergh. Most commissions are obtained through participation in architectural competitions.
At Jo Janssen Architecten five architects work together. It’s a conscious choice to keep the size of the office limited to a small group of people. Namely, within this relative, small organization all the architects have a commitment with their projects.
We see the profession of architect as that of a craftsman who has the task to be involved in the complete process from the first design ideas and concept models until the completion and use of the building. Therefore the project architect not only has an overview but knows in detail exactly how his building functions. This is also an advantage in consultations with other disciplines that are involved during the building process.
Our starting point is to approach nothing as a problem but as a challenge. Because of the diversity within our projects we learned that almost nothing is impossible. Conflicts in a program of requirements and additional demands are often the base of an architectural solution esspecially for the client.
The knowledge and experience from working on complex projects is always used to approach the designtask from an unexpected direction.
