E2A Piet Eckert und Wim Eckert Architekten ETH BSA SIA AG
Piet Eckert was born in 1968 in Mumbai (Bombay). Following his studies at the Columbia Graduate School of Architecture in New York and the ETH Zurich and (1989 to 1994, Diploma 1994 at the ETH Zurich, with honorable mention) he was a project leader at OMA Office for Metropolitan Architecture in Rotterdam from 1995 to 1997. He has been working as an independent architect since 1997 and founded E2A Eckert Eckert Architekten with Wim Eckert in 2001. Piet Eckert regularly gives lectures and workshops at various Universities and Institutes. He was a visiting professor at the Delft University of Technology and teacher at the ETH Zurich.
From 2009 to 2011, Piet has been a visiting Professor for Architecture and Sustainable Building (Bachelors and Masters Degrees) at the HCU HafenCity University of Hamburg. Along with the teaching of architecture, the focal point of the visiting professors was in developing a think tank which allowed for research about sustainability in relation to architecture, urban planning, the arts and engineering. Since 2014, the office operates under E2A Piet Eckert und Wim Eckert Architekten ETH SIA BSA AG. Since 2014, Piet Eckert is Guest Professor at the USI - Università dell Svizzera Italiana at Mendrisio.
Wim Eckert was born in 1969 in Zurich. Following his studies at the ETH Zurich (Diploma 1995, with honorable mention) he has been a project leader at OMA Office for Metropolitan Architecture in Rotterdam from 1996 to 1997. He has been working as an independent architect in Zurich since 1997.
In 2001, he founded E2A Eckert Eckert Architekten with Piet Eckert. Wim Eckert regularly gives lectures and workshops at universities and institutions. In 2001 E2A was founded by Piet and Wim Eckert. The idea was to develop an agency where architecture, urban design, research and innovation are combined, processed and implemented. E2A, with its team of close to 40 architects, designers, engineers, planners, draughtsmen and support staff is currently in the process of developing interdisciplinary solutions for architectural and urban themes. Our work interprets conceptual and contemporary conditions with a particular focus upon the concept of authorship. E2A is engaged in research and development and through generating a working platform within our projects, we aim to shape a better and more competent future in the face of an exceedingly more complex environment. E2A's depth of experience in urban and architectural planning processes creates sustainable added values and continuously works toward the development of spaces that use the most efficient techniques. In doing so, we take responsibility for the essential planning processes and solutions and for their successful implementation, thereby insisting on the urgency to develop requirements of the present and not to leave this task to future generations. Scope of Work E2A performs architecture and urban planning for public, private, industrial and institutional clients. The main work focuses on public and cultural buildings which is the base of the cultural heritage of architecture and urban planning. E2A has also an extraordinary experience in office architecture and has designed over the course of the last years numerous administrational buildings in Europe. The need for housing is an ongoing theme in central European urban condition; therefore we have designed a series of well-known housing projects. E2A has been asked to perform and realize a number of industrial projects which have become a serious contribution in the world of industrial architecture. Besides producing architecture, E2A is also a renowned author of urban planning and performs this discipline for project studies, feasibilities and infrastructural projects.
